Scarborough Borough COVID Spread is Through Social Contacts

A large increase in COVID cases in the Scarborough Borough is being put down to social contact.

The Borough now has a average seven day infection rate of 463 people per 100,000

That's the highest in North Yorkshire and well ahead of the average across England which is 245.

Dr Lincoln Sargeant is the county's Director of Public Health, he says their monitoring of care homes, schools and hospitality venues shows that's not where most of the spread is occurring.

Dr Sargeant says he believes most of the spread can be attributed to household contacts and social contacts rather than contacts at work or school.
