Scarborough Borough COVID Infection Rate Falls

The borough's coronavirus infection rate has once again fallen following a spike at the end of last week.

The Scarborough borough’s seven day infection rate per 100,000 people is now 49, down from 62 a week ago and 64 on Friday.

The borough is now averaging 8 new cases every day, its lowest figure since late September before the second wave of the pandemic hit.

Three more people died in Scarborough this week within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in the borough to 195.

The average infection rate for England stands at 96, down from 130 seven days ago, while North Yorkshire as a whole has now dropped to 69, a reduction of 16 on last Monday.

Last week it was revealed that more than 38,000 people in Scarborough have now had at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Mobile testing facilities are available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this weekend for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm. Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
