Scarborough & Whitby Stopped By Covid & Weather But Folkton & Flixton and Brid Impress

With Whitby and Scarborough affected by things out of their control- Bridlington and Folkton and Flixton continued their strong start to the cricket season.

Whitby reduced Sedgefield to 221/9 from their 50 overs, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, on Saturday. The returning Steve Allen impressed with 4 for 29, only for rain to come in the interval and the points were shared before the Turnbull Ground side had a chance to bat. 

Folkton and Flixton beat Hull Zingari but still remain second in the York & District Premier Division. The Villagers won a thriller, by two wickets, with eight balls remaining, at Flixton, on Saturday. Things looked good early on as Zingari were reduced to 139/5, but a late onslaught took them to a competitive 255/8 from their 50 overs. Faraz Dar smashed 48 from just 24 balls, including five sixes to turn the tide. For the hosts, Harry Walmsley took 3 for 68, Jamie Nesfield 2 for 50 and Elliot Hatton 2 for 70. In reply, Folkton and Flixton faltered to 178 for 7 despite Walmsley's bright and breezy 44. Jake Hatton (41) and Connor Stephenson then put on 30 for the eighth wicket and Nesfield (27*) then combined with Stephenson (38*) to put on an unbroken 48 to see his side home.

Bridlington stay top of Division One East despite being skittled for 211, batting first at Dukes Park. Steve Janney impressed with 54 from just 49 balls and wicket-keeper captain John Major added 41. Visitors Sutton-on-Hull found the Brid bowlers too hot to handle as they were bowled out inside 29 overs for just 89. Sam Edmundson took 4 for 14, with Ben Traves finishing with 3 for 25, Russell Robinson 2 for 21 and Thomas Hudson 1 for 27.  

Scarborough's clash with Yorkshire Academy, at North Marine Road, was called off on Friday night due to Covid cases in the visitors' ranks.
