Scarborough Athletic Club stalwart Mick Thompson was rewarded with a well-earned cuppa after completing a 500-mile running challenge.
81-year-old Mick finished his run at The Hideout café on Columbus Ravine, Scarborough, on Friday afternoon where he enjoyed a takeaway drink.
Mick had just completed a ‘500 miles in 50 days’ challenge in aid of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind. He set the challenge for himself, to run 500 miles spread over the last 50 days of winter.
Mick wanted to recognise Mind in appreciation for the work it does to help local mental health, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. He has beaten his £500 fundraising target in the process.
He was joined on the last bit of the run by Scarborough Athletic Club member Melanie Padgham who praised Mick’s achievement.
“This was a fantastic effort by Mick, a great way to turn our back on the winter and look forward to spring and summer, hopefully without Covid-19,” she said.
“As everyone in Scarborough AC knows, Mick is an absolute legend and this challenge is the latest in some amazing feats he has achieved over the years. We are all very proud of what he does – he’s amazing!”
