One Stop says it will take a replacement shop in former Argos development plans
One Stop convenience store has announced that it will take a new shop in the development that will replace the former Argos store on Newborough, replacing the outdated building that it currently occupies on the site.
Wilson Retail will run the shop and it will add to the twelve it currently runs in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and on the East Coast.
The whole development is being proposed by Wrenbridge and Buccleuch Property, working in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, and includes new retail units on the ground floor and accommodation for 50 doctors and nurses from Scarborough Hospital and 150 university students on the upper floors.
Daniel Wilson, of Wilson Retail commented:
“Our current store is not ideal in terms of storage and space and the new shop unit will be massively better for us operationally and improve our customers experience.
“Along with these improvements to our shop, I also feel that the whole development will bring many benefits to the regeneration of the wider area, and we welcome the investment in the town. It will revitalise the old town area and we want to see Scarborough being successful. I’m aware of the idea put forward to turn the whole site into a public square, but I just do not think that is practical.”
A spokesperson for Wrenbridge and Buccleuch Property commented:
“It’s great news that One Stop will take one of the shops in the new development and allow the company to expand into a better retail unit to serve the local community.
“We strongly believe that this development fits in with the wider Council aspirations of regenerating the town centre and investing in Scarborough.”
A decision on the planning application will be made in the coming weeks.
