Repeated Vandalism to Bridlington Public Toilets

Vandalism to public toilets in Bridlington has left the town's councillors debating whether they should be kept open.

The St John's toilets have suffered repeated damage leaving the town council with large repair bills.

The council is contracted to run the St Johns toilets which have suffered from repeated incidents of vandalism leading to a suggestion that they should be permanently closed.

While some councillors felt the bills were getting out of hand, others like Liam Dealtry, is adamant the facilities must remain open.

In a debate on the issue some councillors, including Glenn Homes questioned whether continuing to spend money on repairs is the right approach.

Councillor Andy Walker believes the council needs to find ways to stop the facilities being damaged and believes they should stay open.

The toilets reopened in October after previous vandalism led them to be closed in 2021.

It had been suggested that following repeated damage to fittings in the facilities, both the ladies and gents toilets should be permanently closed with only the disabled toilet being kept open.

However a full meeting of the town council rejected this suggestion.

Bridlington's Mayor - Councillor Mike Heslop-Mullens says the St John's toilets will remain open, as long as it is safe to do so.
