The COVID lockdowns have inadvertently given local councils an opportunity to test out some measures that might be used in the fight against climate change.
Scarborough Borough Council's Climate Change Task Group have been looking at the benefit of holding remote meetings as a way of reducing the number of cars on the road for some time.
Chair of the group, Councillor Phil Trumper says that the authority being forced to hold remote meetings during the lockdowns has shown it can work.
The authorities new draft climate change strategy makes a number of recommendations to help reduce the borough's carbon footprint and say that the Borough Council itself needs to provide clear leadership on carbon reduction by taking positive action.
