North Yorkshire Police have seized an off-road bike and an e-scooter in the Eastfield area following multiple reports of dangerous and anti-social riding.
The force say the incidents highlight ongoing efforts by local officers to address concerns regarding the unsafe use of such vehicles in the community.
This afternoon North Yorkshire Police received numerous calls from residents in Eastfield complaining about an off-road bike being ridden dangerously. The rider of the off-road bike even reportedly drove past the police station on the footpath and pedestrian area, an act local officers found to be an act of defiance.
According to statements from the police, the bike was located and seized "thanks to the speedy work of local officers utilising the Op Bungalow operation tactics". Officers indicated that the seized bike "will likely be paperclips by the end of the week," suggesting it is set for destruction.
Following this success, officers also responded to sightings of an e-scooter being ridden in an anti-social manner. This e-scooter was first observed on High Street before almost causing a road traffic collision on Westway. Local officers managed to intercept the two riders responsible, seizing the scooter.
The two individuals involved in the e-scooter incident will be considered for prosecution. Police stated they are being investigated for "riding without the necessary insurance and driving licence". It was also noted that one of the riders had previously received a warning for similar riding offences. For the second rider, officers determined that their riding was "that poor, no advice was suitable".
PC Zachary Waterman, from the Eastfield policing team, issued a public message regarding these incidents. PC Waterman urged the community to continue providing information, stating: "Once again if you have any information relating to the use of these vehicles being ridden dangerously or in an anti-social manner please do not hesitate to contact North Yorkshire Police via 101 or 999 in an emergency situation".
