The government has announced Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering has been successful in its bid for funding as part of the School Rebuilding Programme.
The funding has been allocated to make improvements to schools across the country with the aim to “identify and replace (or significantly refurbish) the poorest condition buildings across England”. The intention for the programme is to create modern learning environments for learners as well as making schools green and more energy efficient.
Clair Foden, Headteacher, said that the funding was great news for the school.
“Lady Lumley’s students, staff and community welcome this investment for our current community and for the future. Our site staff are resourceful and dedicated in keeping the current building functioning despite a historic lack of funding. This fabulous news will allow Lady Lumley’s to further support our ambition of ‘Being our Best’.”
Full plans for the work will be confirmed pending a Department for Education inspection.
Chair of Governors, Malcolm Dawson said:
“As Chair of the Local Governing Board, I know that this investment will go directly to improving the educational experience of children at Lady Lumley's School, now and in the future. Serving Pickering and surrounding villages, as well students travelling from Scarborough and Whitby, improving the learning accommodation will benefit a broad community.”
Lady Lumley’s School is part of Coast and Vale Learning Trust, a multi-academy trust comprising of 6 schools with over 3000 learners from the ages of 3 to 18. Brian Crosby, CEO said:
“I am delighted that the leadership team at Lady Lumley’s, together with the Coast and Vale Trust central team, have been able to successfully bid for significant upgrading of the buildings at Lady Lumley’s School.
“While Clair Foden and her team relentlessly work to improve the quality of education, it is reassuring to know that our young people and staff will be educated and teaching in accommodation fit for purpose.”
The announcement of Lady Lumley’s inclusion in the government funded scheme comes alongside 239 other schools which are part of the ten year programme. The refurbishments and rebuilds will provide modern facilities to support world-class education facilities ranging from classrooms and science labs to sports halls and dining rooms.
