The lorry caught fire in the village near Scarborough yesterday morning.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say that crews from Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay attended an incident at just after 8am on Wednesday.
Fire officers say it involved reports of a fire to the brakes of a lorry they said:
"The fire was out on arrival of the fire service due to it being dampened down by a passer by.
Crews checked over the vehicle using a thermal imaging camera to ensure the safety of it, advice was given and the occupant of the vehicle
The crews then awaited the arrival of a mechanic."
