There are concerns that some areas of the county could become electric vehicle charging deserts.
Leading County Councillors say they are concerned that some rural areas could be left behind in the switch to electric cars.
There are concerns that the electricity grid won't have enough capacity in remote areas and that public charging stations won't be commercially viable.
Councillor Keane Duncan thinks the council is going to have to get involved in helping fill some of the gaps.
There are currently 225 public electric vehicle charging points across North Yorkshire but a new study has suggested the county will need over 3100 of them in eight years' time
North Yorkshire County Council is launching a public consultation to get views on how involved the council should be in delivering those charge points.
Executive member for Transport, councillor Keane Duncan says electricity supply is not the only problem.
The authorities draft electric vehicle charging strategy would see 70 public charging points installed across the county.
The county council has launched a public consultation on it's Electric Vehicle Strategy. The council says
"Our climate change ambition aims to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon net neutrality by 2030, when there will be a national ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles.
We are committed to achieving this by helping our residents and businesses switch to more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling, and using public transport. However, it is acknowledged that many people will still rely on private vehicles so, where this is necessary, we want to help enable the use of low carbon transport, such as electric vehicles. To allow this shift over time, we need facilities to allow drivers to charge their electric vehicles easily and conveniently."
The council say the online survey will help shape the rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and policy across the county. they say it takes just 10 minutes to complete and needs to be completed before Sunday 18 December.
