North Yorkshire and York residents look set to be charged millions of pounds extra for the area’s police service from April.
The area’s police, fire and crime commissioner Zoe Metcalfe has proposed council taxpayers pay 3.99 per cent, or on average £11.77 more than last year, to raise almost £4m and help cover inflationary pressure
The commissioner says the continued investment and improvement in the police services is vital:

The commissioner says the 3.99% increase is not the maximum that could have been asked for and says there is public support for the increase.
Commissioner Metcalfe also added:-
“It is never easy to ask residents for more money, and I know that many individuals and families are facing financial pressures once again this coming year, but our emergency services are also dealing with rising costs as they continue their vital work to keep us all safe.
“And again, this year the decision will be challenging, as I have to balance the burden on taxpayers and the growing demands for services from our police and fire and rescue services, so it’s vital that I hear your views.”
