A scheduled meeting of the panel next week will now be broadcast online after a high level of interest from the public and press following comments from Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Philip Allott about the murder of Sarah Everard.
North Yorkshire's Police and Crime Panel have announced that their meeting next week will now be an online meeting in order to allow as many people as possible to watch the meeting live.
The Panel is responsible for providing a check and balance to the performance of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. Its duties include making recommendations on proposed senior appointments such as Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer, reviewing the proposed precept for policing and fire and rescue, and agreeing the draft police, fire and crime plan.
The scheduled meeting of the Panel had been intended to be an in person meeting, with Covid secure measures in place. However, this would have entailed a strict limitation on the numbers of people able to attend.
Following the high level of interest expressed to the Panel by members of the public and reporters from the press wishing to attend, the decision has been made to hold this meeting online and for it to be live broadcasted and recorded. This measure is in place to ensure full transparency of proceedings to the wider public, without having to restrict numbers present during the pandemic.
Panel Members say they will not be commenting further at this stage regarding the recent statements made by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner in respect of the Sarah Everard case. They say the Panel meeting on the 14th will provide "an opportunity for this matter to be properly explored and for Members to ask questions or give views at that point."

Any member of the public who would like to put a question or statement to the Panel should submit the question in advance by emailing nypcp@northyorks.gov.uk before midday on 11th October, so that it may be considered for inclusion in the meeting.
