Humber Coastguard say numerous reports of something on fire off the Yorkshire Coast were nothing to be alarmed about.
Humber Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre say they received numerous calls last night reporting what looked to be a vessel on fire off the Yorkshire Coast.
Following investigations it has been confirmed that a rig was flaring and there were no persons in danger.
Jamie Stafford, Senior Maritime Operations Officer at Humber Coastguard said
‘We can confirm a rig off the Yorkshire coast is flaring, causing what looks to be a fire out to sea. Members of the public are reminded if they think anything looks untoward they should always dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.’
