Humberside Police’s search for a new permanent Chief Constable is to continue, after no one applied for the post.
The Office for the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) ran the recruitment process after former Chief Constable Paul Anderson’s sudden retirement. He is subject to an ongoing IOPC investigation concerning communication and behaviour allegations.
The deadline for applicants for the vacancy was August 5. And no one applied, the LDRS has had confirmed.
An OPCC spokesperson has said the role will be re-advertised in October, and added:
“All details including [an] updated application pack will be released onto our website in due course.”
Following Mr Anderson’s departure, Judi Heaton QPM was recruited out of retirement to be temporary Chief Constable for six months.
Jonathan Evison, the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner, has previously stated acceptance of Mr Anderson’s retirement and the recruitment of a temporary Chief Constable was better financially than a suspended Chief Constable.
The permanent Chief Constable role was advertised with a salary in the region of £171,519, and a contract of up to five years. A glossy recruitment video on YouTube covered the benefits of the Humberside area, in an advertisement clearly with outside Humberside Police force potential candidates in mind.
Humberside Police was graded with an outstanding performance in 2022 by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS). An inspection took place recently during Mr Anderson’s time as Chief Constable. Mr Evison has said he believes the inspection “will show the force continues to perform extremely well”.
