The freezing conditions last night didn't stop Scarborough's Lifeboats from launching for training.
The ILB launched on Tuesday evening and used Thermal Imaging and Night Vision equipment to search for predetermined targets in Scarborough's South bay area, they then passaged to the North bay to practice Veering Down.
This is a skill used to get into tight spots with outcrops of rock and gain access to casualties. It involves deploying the Delta anchor at the correct depth and then one of the crew paying the warp out with the helm backing the ILB into position, it takes great skill and communication.
The ALB covered Locating and Assistance of casualties, this involved using all available equipment that the ALB carries, search lights, NVG's (night vision goggles), RADAR, DF (directional finding), AIS, and the good old human eye to find the casualty.

Once on scene the crew recovered Dead Fred (Dummy) from the sea onto the boat using the Hypo Hoist.

During the evenings training Adam was successful in passing all his units and is now a fully substantial crew member on the ALB.
The RNLI say:
‘If you see anyone in trouble on the coast, if you’re in need of assistance yourself, or even if you just suspect someone might need our help, please call 999 immediately and ask for the coastguard. We’re on call 24/7 for 365 days of the year and we will always be there to help.’,
