In it's 16th year, Scarborough Science and Engineering Week has been re-branded as Scarborough STEM Week.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and the move is intended to encompass the growing field and include all STEM activities.
Sporting a new logo and website, the event looks forward to welcoming over 3500 children through its doors between 7th to 9th October this year.
The event is run by the Scarborough Business Ambassadors (SBA), a group of local business people whose aim is to improve the economic prosperity of the town and its people. Funded mainly by local employers, the purpose of Scarborough STEM Week is to encourage school age children to consider STEM based careers; something needed throughout the UK economy, but particularly in rural and coastal communities.
There are over 40 businesses and organisations involved in organising, running and otherwise supporting the event with McCain Foods as headline sponsor, and venue and schools transport provided by North Yorkshire Council. Other sponsors include Anglo American, Made Smarter, Lloyd Dowson, KD Recruitment, Derwent Training, SWC Tradeframes.
Simon Bull, local business owner and Chair of the SBA said,
“Over the past 15 years, we have welcomed nearly 45,000 students, raised over £3.5m, hosted over 2000 people for dinner, and have engaged with hundreds of employers, making this one of the most successful shows of its type.
We are really excited about 2025, with the launch of our new brand and a show that is already shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before.”
The delivery partner for the event is the Nybep (North Yorkshire, Business and Education Partnership), who take on the role or coordinating the event on behalf of the SBA.
Claire Healy of Nybep said,
“The new brand is really resonating with employers and schools alike, making it easier to get the message across and engage with the right people. Anyone who wants to get involved should contact us or visit the website to find out more and download an exhibitor pack.”
If any employer is interested in coming along to the event, either to take an exhibition space, come to the dinner or just engage with the STEM in education agenda, then the organisers say they would be delighted to hear from you.
