New emissions standards and CCTV rules are coming in to force in the next few months.
All new taxi's and private hire vehicles in the East Riding of Yorkshire will have to meet EURO6 emission standards from July.
The EURO 6 standard was introduce in 2015 and limits the emissions of nitrous oxide in to the air.
It effectively means that vehicles with older diesel engines wont be able to be used.
But, as the East Riding's Director of the Environment - Paul Bellotti - explains the new rule will take some time to have it's full effect.
Currently in the East Riding seven existing licensed vehicles currently meet Euro 4 standards and 118 existing licensed vehicles currently meet Euro 5, in total 125 licensed vehicles will not meet the Euro 6 emission rating by July 2022, these vehicles will be able to continue as a licensed
vehicle until the end of their lifespan as a licensed vehicle.
Taxi's and Private hire vehicles in the East Riding will also have to have CCTV systems installed from September this year.
East Riding Council are introducing the measure to strengthen the safety measures for protecting the public and licensed drivers.
Paul Bellotti says there will be strict rules about how the footage can be used.
