There are hopes that a new community speed watch groups might become a regular occurrence in Whitby.
That's according to Town Mayor - Councillor Robert Dalrymple - who says that the groups will be run by people from the local villages in a bid to monitor speed levels.

The groups are made up of police trained volunteers, who aim to change the behaviour of road users. Whilst monitoring vehicles at the roadside, the team record the details of speeding vehicles on a spreadsheet. This information is then entered into a computer system and emailed to the scheme coordinator. The information is checked against the Police National Computer (PNC) for the keepers details, from which warning letters are then sent. The information is retained for a 12 month rolling period by the police.
Councillor Robert Dalrymple is calling for local people to get involved for a few hours a month and help monitor speed levels.
