Scarborough Disability Action Group is now offering Kurling as part of its Treats project.
The Treats project provides leisure activities for local disabled and disadvantaged people, allowing participants to overcome social isolation and enjoying new pursuits in a warm and friendly environment. The activities include Zumba, Chair-a-cise keep fit, singing and indoors bowls. Instructors design sessions to meet the needs of all ability ranges.
Kurling is a form of the original curling game, but adapted so that it can be played indoors on any smooth, flat surface.
Curling itself is one of the oldest ice sports in the world dating back to 16th century. The game is played between two teams of four, who take it in turns to slide heavy stones towards a target area, while two sweepers help to guide it by brushing the surface with brooms. Each team tries to get more of its stones closer to the centre of the target than the other team.
Mark Smith Treats Co-ordinator said
“We provide all the equipment, the curling stones and the brooms, so come along and try it, also on the day is Table Tennis”
Scarborough DAG added Table Tennis to their Treats project in December. The Curling sessions will run alongside the table tennis activities with the next joint session taking place on April 27th at the Street from 1pm to 3pm.
