Plans to build 126 affordable houses at Osgodby have been approved despite objections from local people.
The homes will be built on land at the southern edge of the village.
Craig Wilmer spoke for the developer, Countryside Properties, at yesterday's planning meeting.
Unusually the entire development will consist of affordable homes.
Ward Councillor Simon Green told yesterdays planning meeting that there was strong local opposition to the scheme.
The site is situated on the Southern edge of Osgodby to the east of Osgodby Lane and south of The Intake and Rimington way housing estates. It is a 7.77ha site which is currently in agricultural use.
The proposal is for a scheme of 100% affordable housing and public open space including:
- 126 dwellings on 3.99 ha of the site, mainly 2 storey with 7 bungalows. The housing occupies the northern half of the site adjoining existing housing estates.
- An area of 3.78 ha of public open space wrapping around the proposed housing to the south and east.
- Two vehicular access points from Osgodby Lane and Rimington Way with additional pedestrian routes through Fenton Close, Knolls Close and Redcliff Close to the north of the site.
The houses comprise a variety of detached, semi-detached and short terraced units. There would be 7 different house types within the scheme. 46 x 2 bedroomed, 53 x 3 bedroomed and 27 x 4 bedroomed.
They all have front and rear garden areas and the majority have driveways for in curtilage car parking. There would be 3 parking courts with
dedicated parking spaces. No garages are proposed as part of the development.
The public open space is proposed to be a mixture of grass and wildflower meadow with new tree planting, including tree planting along its northern edge to form an avenue along the main spine road. It would contain pedestrian footpaths and a children's play area. An open basin to collect rainwater run-off as part of the Sustainable urban drainage (Suds) scheme would be located within the open space, as is a pumping station.
