It’s yet another game for Bridlington against a side pushing for promotion, their third in the space of seven days, as Mike Thompson’s side head north to Dunston on Saturday in the Northern Premier League East Division.
The Seasiders hosted Cleethorpes last Saturday, and fell to a 3-0 defeat to the league leaders. They then had their shortest away trip of the season midweek, travelling to East Yorkshire rivals North Ferriby, though it was no easy feat with the Villagers sitting in fourth.
Despite competing in the first half, which ended goalless, former North Ferriby man Danny Earl was sent off for two bookable offenses, the second of which was for delaying the restart.
This made the task monumental in the second half, with the Seasiders losing 1-0 to a 70th minute Josh Thacker strike.
After the game, Thompson said:
“Put it this way, I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but it’s individual decision making that crippled us once more. I think, if we keep 11 men on the pitch, it’s a different story.
“The decisions have really hampered us, and we’ve had to change the way we play. I think before that we’ve looked solid and kept the same shape as the Cleethorpes game.”
The only change of the game saw Cam Connelly replace Pete Davidson, who was forced off injured. Thompson commented:
“It doesn’t look great. I thought it was an impact one at first, but he’s struggling in there, so I think that might be a hefty layoff for Pete, which is not great because he’s been running that midfield for us in there.
“We’re going to be without Danny (Earl) for the Ossett game, so it’s frustrating.”
Bridlington continue to drop down the table, now in 20th, the lowest they’ve been all season. Meanwhile, Dunston occupy a playoff spot in 5th with 51 points, nearly twice as many as Bridlington’s 27.
That being said, they aren’t in the best of form, having failed to win their last three games. They picked up back-to-back defeats, losing 4-3 against Bishop Auckland and 1-0 against Heaton Stannington.
They could also only manage a point against strugglers Liversedge on Tuesday evening, drawing 2-2.
Moreover, Jon McDonald’s side were defeated by Bridlington earlier in the season, with Sam Leverett’s first half penalty securing a 1-0 win.
