A local councillor says the poor water quality rating at Bridlington South Beach could affect more than just bathers.
That's the concern of Bridlington South Councillor John Copsey.
He's calling for urgent action to identify what's causing the poor rating and says it could affect more than just visiting bathers.
Councillor Copsey is concerned about the impact of the water quality rating on the local shellfish industry and says as a member of the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club he's also worried about the effect on the sailing events lined up for this year, which includes an international event.
Sailors from nine countries around the world are expected in Bridlington in July for the Dart 18 World Championships.
Somewhere between 120 and 160 boats will be taking part in the event which runs from July 30th to August 4th and is being hosted by the town's Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club.
It's expected that the boats will be kept on the beach rather than in the harbour and that scrutineering of the boats will also take place on the beach.
