Merchant Navy Day To Be Marked In Scarborough Tonight

A special service to commemorate Merchant Navy Day takes place on board Regal Lady in Scarborough Harbour this evening.

Merchant Navy Day is a day of recognition and remembrance and is marked on 3rd September each year to commemorate the anniversary of the first merchant navy ship to be sunk in WW2.

The merchant navy were vital during WW2, delivering food, supplies, arms and all sorts of other materials needed to keep a country going through war.

The service on board Regal Lady starts at 7:00pm.

Members of the Scarborough Sea Cadets will be attending the 30-minute service, alongside The Royal British Legion and the Merchant Navy Association.

Scarborough's Charter Mayor Janet Jefferson will also be attending.

Memebers of the public are welcome to watch the service from the pier (Vincent Pier).
