Grass roots support is needed to help prevent suicide in North Yorkshire.
That's the message from a new community mental health transformation programme.
It aims to develop community based approaches to tackling issues around suicide.
Paddy Chandler is North Yorkshire Council's Stronger Communities Manager for the North York Moors, he is hoping that the investment can lead to upskilling of communities to offer more to those who are struggling with mental health.
Under the transformation scheme, communities are being put at the forefront of tackling mental health issues in North Yorkshire.
It's part of a national "Community Mental Health Transformation Project" which aims to develop new community based projects delivered by voluntary organisations and community groups.
The approach includes NHS financial investment, managed by North Yorkshire's Stronger Communities Programme, working with four place based multi-agency partnerships to develop and/or pilot new community -based services and projects through grant funding to voluntary organisations and community groups with the over-arching aim of enabling people with a serious mental illness to live well in their communities.
