Police were attempting to engage with the man who is believed to have fallen from a window.
Police in Scarborough say they were called at about 10.45pm on Thursday 4 November 2021 to a report of a confrontation involving two men at a property on Pavilion Square in Scarborough.
They say that as officers were attempting to engage with a man, aged in his 40s, he is believed to have fallen from a window in the property.
Officers provided medical attention while the ambulance service arrived. However, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Following any serious injury or fatality where there has been contact with the police, a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is required.
The North Yorkshire force say they will work closely with the IOPC and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact North Yorkshire Police by calling 101.
