Large Illuminated Sea Creatures in Bridlington Tonight

Illuminated Lobsters, Seagulls and Dolphins will be parading through Bridlington this evening.

It's the latest stage of the Yorkshire Coast Odyssey which is retelling ancient Greek stories through public arts works with a Yorkshire Coasts twist.

Lee Threadgold is from Animated Objects Theatre company he says tonight's event has been adapted with a very local theme.

The lantern parade is the latest stage of the Yorkshire Coast Odyssey which has seen public art work events take place along the coast including last year's world record breaking cardboard Trojan horse construction in Bridlington and a 16 foot tall puppet which toured the Yorkshire Coast last summer.

In this chapter of his adventure Odysseus meets the sorceress Circe, who turns his crew into a host of animals. Circe herself will be represented by a giant illuminated figure, leading the lanterns carried by members of community groups from the Bridlington area. It will walk southwards on the promenade from the Spa to the beach huts and back.

Tonight's event starts at 6pm near Bridlington Spa. Lee says there are some good places to watch from.

Lee says there has been lots of community involvement in putting the event on.

There will also be an opportunity to see the lanterns at Bridlington Spa on Saturday, Lee says:

"if you miss the parade on the Friday evening, the lanterns will be on display in Sessions at Bridlington Spa on Saturday 11th February from 10.00 - 4.00.

It's a great opportunity to celebrate the beauty of the coast and capture some great selfies with family and friends.

Admission is free. No need to book."
