King's Coronation Event Planned for Barrowcliff

Plans have been revealed for a big coronation celebration in Barrowcliff.

The local community held a big community event last year for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Local Councillor, Bill Chatt, says the coronation event will be another opportunity to bring the community together.

Charles III's coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey in London, where the King will be crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort.

It is the first coronation of a monarch in the UK since the late Queen’s ceremony was staged on June 2, 1953.

Bill says the Barrowcliff event will be similar to the event put on for the Queen's platinum Jubilee last year and will be free to attend.

 Communities across North Yorkshire are being given help to celebrate the first coronation of a monarch in the UK for nearly 70 years.

To ensure that celebrations can be staged as easily as possible in towns and villages across the county for the coronation of the King in May, standard road closure fees for street parties over the bank holiday weekend are being scrapped.

North Yorkshire County Council is waiving standard street closure fees from Saturday, May 6, to Monday, May 8, which will apply to residential streets.

The same policy was in place for those wanting to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5, last year. More than 200 applications were made for that period.
