A major jobs fair is taking place in Scarborough on Friday with some of the area's biggest local employers getting together at The Street to meet potential employees.
The public can call into this free event to talk to employer’s face to face between 11am to 1.30pm on Friday 4th March. Organisers say the event is for anyone looking for a job, wanting extra hours, embarking on their first steps into work or those considering a whole new career.
Dave Waller from Job Centre plus says there are vacancies to be filled in the local area and people could walk away with a job on the day.
The event runs from 11am until 1:30 at The Street on Lower Clark Street, Dave Waller says that being able to meet employers face to face has a number of advantages and having 29 of them in one place is a real benefit.
The event was organised to try and fill a number of current vacancies that exist in the area .
Dave says there is a shortage of workers in a number of sectors.
The job market has changed considerably during the pandemic with some sectors such as care, hospitality and tourism continuing to find it difficult to fill roles. Dave Waller thinks the changes have led employers to look at their recruitment process differently.
The team behind the event say that with dozens of employers keen to meet potential candidates there will be 100’s of jobs on offer across a wide range of sectors including skilled and unskilled roles, engineering, admin, driving, production, plus hospitality, health and social care, retail and many more.
Employers attending the event include NHS Trusts, Scarborough Borough Council, Haven Holiday Parks, Sainsburys, Severfield, Cooplands, St Cecilia’s, Castle Employment and more.
The event has been organised by The Opportunity Centre, part of Aspire-igen who fund this event in partnership with Scarborough Jobcentre Plus.
Dave Waller from Job Centre Plus is advising anyone planning to attend the event to take a few copies of their CV with them.
