Openreach have confirmed that a problem with equipment in the Scarborough telephone exchange was the cause of a widespread loss of internet access in the area on Wednesday
Large numbers of people reported a loss of internet connectivity in Scarborough from 10am on Wednesday affecting multiple providers.
A spokesperson for Openreach told This is the Coast:
“We had to replace a fault part in our Scarborough exchange this afternoon, which was causing disruption to broadband services in the local area. Engineers quickly identified the fault and replaced the piece of equipment that was causing the problem. People should now be able to get back online. We’re sorry for any disruption caused.”
Service was restored at around 5:30pm.
The outage had affected both residential and businesses customers.
Alan Knowles runs a business in Filey he said
"Down in Filey with 3 x providers (office and home). Plusnet, BT and Zen internet. Including a leased line too, which is concerning."
Paul Hesp checked with his service provider on Wednesday morning and was told..

Central Healthcare in Scarborough saidaffected their internet and phones
There were also reports that some shops are unable to take contactless payments as a result of the outage.
