Hornsea Inshore Rescue was called into action last night during a routine training exercise when Humber Coastguard reported two individuals stranded at Skirlington.
The lifeboat, named ‘Spirit of Hornsea,’ was already afloat and swiftly made its way to the scene.
Upon arrival, the crew discovered two people at the base of a cliff, one of whom had sustained injuries from a fall. The crew, led by Coxswain James Kennedy, quickly assessed the situation and provided necessary medical assistance. Both individuals were subsequently taken aboard the lifeboat and transported back to the Hornsea Rescue boathouse for further treatment.
The incident involved a coordinated effort from the Hornsea Inshore Rescue team, including crew members Jake Roberts, Jenny Hannon, and Carl Handley, as well as Launch Master Dave Gray. Additionally, units from HM Coastguard Hornsea and Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Teams were present to support the rescue operation.
Hornsea Inshore Rescue emphasised the importance of community support in maintaining their readiness to respond to emergencies. “Only with the support of our fantastic community can we do this,” the organization stated, highlighting their commitment to being on call 24/7, 365 days a year.
