YMCA's Social Band performed their End-Of-Season gig in the YMCA Theatre Bar on Saturday afternoon.
The band is youth-led with Mark Gordon, Band Leader, quipping that his job is to “do nothing.”
The band choose the songs, the chords, the set list, and what instruments to play, Mark's job is to keep them safe and ultimately play at least a bit of music.
A YMCA spokesperson says many vital schools are teaching young people music, this is different, the band is a place to perform, belong and express yourself, that's what makes it magic.
The performance was attended by YMCA Yorkshire Coast's CEO, Liam Downey;
"The band is youth led, the style of music and how it is performed is completely up to the young people. They should be proud of having the confidence to perform in a crowded room and for performing so well."
YMCA's Social Band is open to any young people 11-18 who are musical. It costs £3 per session and runs on a Saturday 1pm -2:30pm and 2:30pm-4pm. Young people can stay for both sessions.
