Fire and Rescue teams in Scarborough and Whitby responded to a variety of calls yesterday, ranging from false alarms to dealing with a small explosion.
At 11:41am, fire crews from Scarborough responded to reports of a loud bang and alarm activation at a residential property. Upon arrival, they discovered that a gas and oil burner had exploded, causing damage to the building. The crews promptly isolated the utilities and conducted a thermal check of the scene to ensure safety. The incident was then handed over to the responsible persons on site.
In addition to this incident, Scarborough fire crews attended to a number of other calls throughout the day and night. These included:
- Assisting ambulance crews: At 10:50 am, a crew helped move a casualty from their property into an ambulance. Later, at 01:54 am, another crew assisted ambulance personnel in gaining entry to a property where there were concerns for the occupants. They used a triple extension ladder to access the property through a window.
- Addressing fire safety concerns: At 11:24 am, a crew assisted police in checking fire safety concerns at a property and isolated the electrics there.
Whitby also experienced a busy day for its fire service.
While a call out at 13:18 proved to be a false alarm due to a faulty detector head, crews from Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay responded to a fire at a two-storey residential property at 21:05 pm.
Thankfully, the fire was already extinguished upon their arrival, and all occupants were safe.
