From Hornsea Residential Home To Seafront Cocktail Lounge?

East Riding Council have received an application for the change of use of a former care home in Hornsea with plans submitted to turn the property into a cocktail lounge.

The Promenade Residential Care Home on Marine Drive in Hornsea, which provided accommodation for up to 24 elderly persons, closed in summer 2024 “due to issues with meeting modern healthcare requirements” according to planning documents submitted to the council.

The property (8-10 Marine Drive) was originally built as three separate townhouses but has since been combined into one property with a large garden to the rear.

The planning application submitted to the council seeks to change the use of the property stating that the ground floor could become a “Cafe / Cocktail Lounge” and three self-contained holiday rental units. The plans also state that the two upper floors would become private residential accommodation for the property’s new owners.

In addition to the change of use of the property, the application also includes alterations to the external appearance of the building. These alterations include the removal of two ground floor windows and the installation of a new door to provide access to the proposed Cafe / Cocktail Lounge. A further new door would be installed to provide access to the private accommodation on the upper floors.

Planning documents suggest the property has space for five cars to park at the front, whilst there is also space for a further seven cars to park off Constable Road at the rear of the property.

This application will now be reviewed by East Riding Council.
