A well-used footpath which provides Scalby residents with a vital link to the village will undergo major repairs starting next week.
North Yorkshire County Council highways teams are carrying out the repairs on Barmoor Lane from the ford to outside Wrea Head Cottages.
Local county council member Councillor Derek Bastiman said:
“Barmoor Lane provides a vital link for local residents to facilities in Scalby and has seen increasing use over the last few years,”
“The current surface has reached the end of its life so these are essential repairs and reconstruction. We are also widening the path where possible.”
Work will take three weeks beginning on Monday, April 12. During the working hours of 7.30am to 5pm on weekdays the road will be closed and a signed diversion will be in place.

Emergency access will be permitted throughout and access to properties will be allowed when it is safe to do so.
Residents are being asked to ensure that any vehicles parked on-street are relocated outside of the working area.
Cllr Bastiman added:
“We apologise in advance for any disruption these works may cause but ask residents for their cooperation. When the repairs are complete they will be sure to benefit the community for years to come.”
Operatives working on site will be observing all Government guidelines on safe social distancing.
