The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for much of the Yorkshire Coast and Flood Warnings for parts of Scarborough and Bridlington.
Flood alerts are in place for the North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey, for the North Sea coast at Bridlington and for the North Sea coast at Skipsea, Hornsea and Mappleton.
The Environment Agency say that strong winds and spring tides may cause large waves and spray overtopping on the coast both this evening and tomorrow morning, Friday 09/02/2024.
Areas most at risk include :
- the North Sea Coast from Bridlington to Barmston, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm this evening, 08/02/2024, and again overnight from 2:00am until 10:00am tomorrow, 09/02/2024
- the North Sea coast from Skipsea to Mappleton, including Hornsea from 02:00am until 08:00am tomorrow, 09/02/2024
- the North Sea Coast from Whitby to Filey from 02:00am until 09:00am tomorrow, 09/02/2024
Three Flood Warnings are also in place for:
- North Sea at Scarborough - Foreshore Road - Areas most at risk include properties on Foreshore Road from the roundabout to West Pier, from 05:15am until 07:00am tomorrow, 09/02/2024
- North Sea at Scarborough - Sandside - Areas most at risk include properties on Sandside around the old harbour from 05:00am until 08:45am tomorrow, 09/02/2024
- North Sea coast at Bridlington - Harbour Road and Floral Pavilion - Areas most at risk include the north side of the dock area, properties on Harbour Road and the Floral Pavilion from 02:00am until 08:00am tomorrow, 09/02/2024.
The agency are advising people to avoid walking, cycling or driving through areas where waves are overtopping.
