Flood Alert Issued for Yorkshire Coast

A flood alert has been issued form the Yorkshire Coast from Staithes to Flamborough.

The Environment Agency flood alert has been issued due to high tides and forecasted weather conditions which it says  may cause waves and spray overtopping on the coast today, Friday 24/02/2023, between 6.30 PM and 9:30 PM.

The agency say that particular areas at risk are exposed areas of the coast around Scarborough, including Marine and Royal Albert Drives and Foreshore Road and low lying coastal frontages, in particular around Whitby New Quay Road and Sandsend.

The Alert says:

"Large waves are expected and may cause disruption. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as waves and sea spray could be dangerous. We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert if necessary. "
