Flamingo Land Boss Gordon Gibb says his firm is interested in running Scarborough's Alpamare Waterpark on a long term basis.
The company signed a 12 month deal to operate the park this week.
That deal has an option to extended by 12 months, but Gordon Gibb says he's also interested in exploring longer term arrangements and making the attraction a year round destination.
The Flamingo Land owner says he's keen to get local people back into Scarborough's Alpamare Water Park.
Mr Gibb says he's aware of the criticism that under it's previous operator the waterpark was too expensive for local residents to use regularly.
The water park, which is located off Burniston Road, features a wave pool, a splash and play pool, four state-of-the-art slides, two outdoor pools, an alpine themed spa and treatment area, and a café and terrace bar. It was purpose-built in 2016 overlooking the North Bay in the seaside town.
The previous operator of the site went into administration in the autumn, the actual site reverted to North Yorkshire Council ownership.
The council has said it doesn't feel it has the expertise to run a water park attraction and asked for expressions of interest from companies who might be interested in running the site, initially on a 12 month basis.
This week the council announced that Flamingo Land would become the operator for the next 12 months. It's hoped to reopen the water park in July.
