Dramatic First-Hand Video Footage Of Langdale Blaze As Roads Close

The fire spread on Monday night across Fylingdales Moor and there is a lot of smoke in the area as parts of the A171 are closed.

Firefighters are working to put fire breaks in at the scene. They have 9 appliances plus special appliances at the scene and partner agencies are assisting with drones.

The following roads are currently closed due to the wildfire at Langdale. -

• A171 Robin Hoods Bay turn to Cloughton - (C219 Sledgates to C77 Newlands Road)

• B1416 Sneatonthorpe (Dean Hall Brow to A171)

• Gowlands Lane, Cloughton (Harwood Dale Road to A171)

• B1416 with Lousy Hill Lane

• C224 Littlebeck (A169 to B1416 Redgates Corner)

• C78 Gainforth Wath Road, Staintondale

• U2346 Raikes Lane, Sneatonthorpe

• A171 Summerfield Lane to Fern Farm, Hawsker

These closures are in place due to heavy smoke.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue issued the following statement:

'We continue to have a presence at the scene. The fire spread last night on Fylingdales Moor and there is a lot of smoke in the area. We would ask people affected by smoke to keep doors and windows closed.'

North Yorkshire Police have warned people to observe signs and not to move them:

'Emergency Services are actively tackling fires in our National Park. As a result, various road closures have been put in place by Police and National Highways. These closures are essential for your safety and that of Emergency Personnel. They also enable Emergency Services to carry out their roles effectively.

'Moving signage to gain access disrupts operations, causes traffic chaos, and creates unnecessary hazards.

'Please respect all road closure signs and allow Emergency Services to work safely and efficiently, by finding an alternative route.'
