North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue say it happened on Christmas Day, around 5.30pm, on Falsgrave Road.
Firefighters released the following statement:
'Scarborough fire crew responded to a report of a car which had collided with a lamp post. Fire crew made the scene safe while Police took the driver into care.'
