Fire Brigade Tackle Railway Fire in Goathland

Crews from Goathland, Whitby and Lythe attended a fire on the railway embankment in the Esk Valley village.

The blaze took place at Beck Hole Road, around 1.30pm on Saturday.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say it was caused by sparks from a passing train.

There were two areas ablaze, measuring 30 x 3 metres and 20 x 2 metres. Crews used a light portable pump, 45mm jet, 1 branch, 5 backpack sprayers and 6 beaters to extinguish the flames.

The fire took place on one of the hottest days of the year.
