Work on Filey's new skatepark could start this month as regeneration projects in the town progress.
The £362,000 facility will be located on the western side of West Avenue, between the car park and the multi-use games area. It is intended to cater for skateboards, BMX, scooters and wheelchair motocross.
It's one of a number of regeneration projects underway in Filey, some of the other projects could be completed in the next few weeks.
The projects have been funded through the Filey Investment programme and are the initial stage of a ten year vision for the town.
Borough Council Community Regeneration Officer - Zoe Kelsall - says the initial projects are progressing well.
The works are an early part of the "Vision for Filey", a ten year strategy that has been backed by both the Town and Borough Councils.
Community regeneration Officer - Zoe Kelsall - says the ten year plan has a number of thematic aims
The Filey Investment Plan is being progressed by an Investment Plan working group comprising representatives of the Council and Filey Town
Council with development and project management support provided by Borough Council Officers. Regular progress reports are given to the full meetings of Filey Town Council.
Investment Plan projects include:
- renovations and visual improvements to Glen Gardens,
- a new Bonzo the Seal plastics receptacle similar to Scarborough’s Finn the Fish,
- refurbishments and upgrades to both the Seafront Paddling Pool and Mini Golf Course
The Beach promenade chalets are also currently undergoing extensive refurbishment with around £300,000 of funding.
In January planning consent was obtained for a new skate park in Filey and work on this could start this month. The Contract value has been revised following alterations to the design recommended by statutory planning consultees. The new skatepark is expected to cost £364,500, £328k of that budget will be funded from Borough Council resources, with the remainder coming from external funding.
