Filey's MP has said that there is a balance to be struck between using land for farming and energy production.
Kevin Hollinrake has been speaking after a recent refusal of planning permission for a solar farm near Malton.
North Yorkshire Council's strategic planning committee heard that the proposed solar farm would be capable of providing the average annual electricity needs of 8,660 homes.
The plans for a solar farm on the site emerged several years ago, much of the controversy has focused on the loss of farmland for 40 years, some 60% of which has been graded the best and most versatile.
He says that he will be seeking answers on solar applications as soon as possible.
Hollinrake has also said that adapting rural homes to use heat pumps rather than gas or oil boilers could be a problem.
He spoke of his concerns with the plans and says that the cost of installing them would be too much for the local people.
He says that the problem lies with the older homes being less efficient than new builds.
