The lack of public charging bays for EV cars in Filey is again being highlighted by one of the town's councillors.
North Yorkshire Councillor Sam Cross says that with the busy summer season now upon us, the town is suffering from a lack of charging facilities.
Councillor Sam Cross says the lack of facilities is affecting both residents and tourists.
He raised the issue at a full meeting of North Yorkshire Council.
The Executive member for Transport, Councillor Keane Duncan - admits there is an issue.
Councillor Duncan says the council has obtained a further 5 million pounds of Government funding to help roll out more charging points.
The Council's Executive approved an Electric Vehicle (EV) Public Charging Infrastructure Rollout Strategy in May. The strategy will be used as a guide for network planning across North Yorkshire which will lead to mass rollout of Electric Vehicle Charge Points (EVCPs).
It is forecast that 3,161 public charge points are required by 2030. It is anticipated that the public sector will need to fund 1,529 of the overall charge point requirements by 2030 at an approximate cost of £10.3m.
North Yorkshire Council has received £3.27m funding so far to deliver 150 EVCPs and renewable technology alongside 70 of those chargers. The council has also bid for a further £4.88m from the LEVI Capital Fund, which was offered as an indicative allocation rather than a competition, which it says should enable delivery of around 1,000 EVCPs.
The council also received £88,920 from the LEVI Capability Fund to cover resource for the project and has since also bid for a further £405,080.
