Get ready to step back in time as Robin Hood's Bay prepares for its annual Victorian Weekend.
The festivities will take place on December 6th, 7th, and 8th, 2024, offering a delightful array of activities and entertainment for all ages.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, December 6th, with a Christmas Tree Festival of Light and Christingle Opening Service at 2:00 PM. The festive atmosphere continues with Carols around the tree, the switching on of the Christmas lights and a Guided Smuggler's Tour of Local Haunts, all happening between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. As the evening sets in, warm up with a Ghost Christmas Quiz at the Folk Club at 9:00 PM.
Saturday, December 7th, promises a full day of timed events, commencing at 10:00 AM with Gail Sherwood Art Open Studio and the melodious Find Your Sea Legs - Sea Shanty Workshop by the Auckland Shanty Singers. Throughout the day, there will be historical talks, vintage tea, a pot luck pottery workshop and an exhibition of Curios of Oddoots. Visitors can also enjoy the John Henry - Art Exhibition, take a trip down memory lane with Bay's pictures Past & Present at The Old Drapery, and be captivated by the Ballad's Down the Bank performance. The evening concludes with more sea shanties and a captivating Victorian Projection by Animated Objects.
Sunday, December 8th continues the Victorian journey with more sea shanties, another historical talk, and the John Henry Art Exhibition. The afternoon brings the enchanting Fylingdales Folk Choir, a Duck Race, and the hilarious Best Dressed Pet (in Victorian Dress) competition. The day culminates with a grand Finale Music from Stella's Band at 4:00 PM.
Drop-in Activities and Village Entertainment
In addition to the timed events, there are numerous drop-in activities to enjoy throughout Saturday and Sunday. Immerse yourself in Victorian traditions with craft fairs, pop-up cafes, and displays of fascinating artefacts. Soak up the atmosphere with live music by the Robin Hood's Bay Old Fiddlefellow Co and be mesmerized by Suzanne Dekker - Fused and Stained Glass artist.
Keep an eye out for roving entertainment throughout the village over the weekend! You might encounter Queen Victoria on her annual visit, be entertained by Tony Knight's street performances, or catch the captivating James Hutton Opera Singer. Will Tingle, the fire-eater and stuntman, will thrill the crowds on Saturday, while Paul the Magnificent will amaze with his magic on Sunday.
