Eastfield Residents Association are targeting the old Overdale School site for a new Skate Park and cafe if they can raise the money to build it.
Carol Smith, secretary of Eastfield Residents Association told This is the Coast:
'We currently have a petition to get North Yorkshire Council to transfer the burnt out Overdale School site to us so that we can build a concrete skatepark for the youngsters of Eastfield, as there are no facilities here for 11 to 17 year olds. We keep getting more and more houses built and nothing built for the community.
'The previous metal skatepark at Pindar School was demolished some years ago due to corrosion but we plan to build a concrete skatepark which needs less maintenance.
Eastfield Town Council and the PACT Regeneration group have both given us their support and also pledged a total of £50k. The build cost of the skatepark is expected to be around £350k to £400k, which we aim to raise through national grants, local businesses and a crowdfunding campaign but until we get a site we can't apply for any of these.'
Carol said the plan has support from locals of all ages and explained more about how the project came about:
She said ten different sites in the area were looked at but rejected for various reasons, including concerns from Police.
Carol outlined the current plan:
