East Riding of Yorkshire Council children’s centres, along with Humber NHS Integrated Public Health Nurses, are celebrating Breastfeeding in Public Day through a week of awareness.
Breastfeeding in Public Day takes place on Saturday 22 February, and throughout the week (24-28 February) breastfeeding groups will be moving from their usual Children’s Centre location into public venues, including East Riding Libraries, Leisure Centres, and local cafes.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for children, families and education said:
“In East Riding, we want all new parents to feel welcome to feed their babies, whether this is in council run venues, health buildings, or in public spaces.
“Breastfeeding in Public Day, and the week of awareness, provides the opportunity to celebrate and normalise breastfeeding. It is good for mums and babies, and we want to remove any barrier for parents, so that they can feed whenever they need to when they are out and about.”
Parents are invited to join at any of the venues throughout the week:
- Anlaby Morrisons café: Monday 24, 10-11.30am
- Sandhill garden centre, Preston: Tuesday 25, 10.30-11.30am
- Withernsea Library: Tuesday 25, 10-11am
- Beverley Library: Tuesday 25, 1.30-3pm
- Bridlington Library: Wednesday 26, 10-11am
- Buddhist Centre in Pocklington: Thursday 27, 10-11am
- Goole Library, Thursday 27, 1-2.30pm
- Cottingham Library, Friday 28, 10.30-11.30am
East Riding has adopted the Breastfeeding Friendly Scheme, which encourages local businesses to display posters highlighting that they are breastfeeding friendly.
