Jonathan Owen is concerned that introducing the social care cap could mean larger bills for local authorities.
The government announcement last month that from 2023 no one will pay more than £86 thousand pounds in their lifetime for social care and that more personal assets will be protected meaning more people will qualify for assistance with care fees.
Councillor Owen says that could shift costs on to local authorities.
Councillor Owen says the plans announced by the government last month to reduce the amount of personal wealth people pay for social care is going to mean local councils paying more.
From October 2023, anyone with assets under £20,000 have their care costs fully covered by the state, while those with between £20,000 and £100,000 will be expected to contribute to their costs but will also receive state support.
Councillor OweN says the change is going to put pressure on the amount councils pay care home providers.
