The introduction of residents waste passes in the East Riding looks set to save the authority around £110,000 a year.
The passes were introduced in the autumn after surveys suggested around 12% of waste being taken to the county's tips was from people who didn't live in the East Riding.
Sarah Atkinson is the Service Manager for Waste disposal in the East Riding. Sarah says the pass seems to have had the desired effect.
The introduction of the residents waste passes saved the county council £25k in their first month of operation.
Sarah Atkinson says the introduction of the passes has lead to a reduction in demand from non-residents.
A report to East Riding Councillors also stated that waste tonnages disposed of at the East Riding’s 10 tips fell by 22.78 per cent year-on-year, from 3988.23 in November 2020 to 3,079.682.
Council waste lead Paul Tripp said the passes meant people in the East Riding were no longer subsidising the disposal of waste from tip users outside the area.
