Dog walkers are being reminded that the dog exclusion zones on Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea beaches come into effect from Wednesday 1st May and will remain in place until Monday 30th September.
East Riding Council's Coastal Services Team say:
"Whilst the East Riding contains some great places to take your dogs for long walks with beautiful views please be aware there is a seasonal dog ban (1 May to 30 September) which applies to the exercising of dogs on beaches at Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea.
Please be a responsible dog owner and keep in mind that dogs are affected by hot weather and can intimidate young children playing.
The seasonal dog ban (from 1 May - 30 September), applies to any of the following beaches:
- Bridlington North Beach
- Bridlington South Beach
- Hornsea Beach
- Withernsea Beach
Anyone found guilty of ignoring the ban will face a fixed penalty notice of £75. Where offenders fail to pay the fixed penalty notice further legal action may be taken against the person in control of the dog at the time of the offence.
Assistance dogs, including Guide Dogs, are exempt form the dog ban. However, assistance dogs do need to kept on a lead in this area. This is consistent with the Equality Act 2010."
In Bridlington the dog exclusion zone extends from the harbour to the Limekiln Lane slipway on the North Beach and from the harbour to the outflow pipe opposite the pumping station on the South Beach.
In Hornsea, the dog exclusion zone runs south from the groyne under the Marine pub down to the groyne just to the south of the Sands Lane slipway.
In Withernsea the dog exclusion zone is from the steps to the north of the Seaside Road slipway to the steps opposite the memorial gardens.
